Admiral of the Navy of the Soviet Union KUZNETSOV Nikolai Gerasimovich (1902-1974) During the years of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), member of the Supreme Command Headquarters (the "Stavka"), People's Commissar of the Navy of the USSR, Commander-in-Chief of the Navy. Resolutely conducted naval operations in the defence of Odessa, Sevastopol, Leningrad and other coastal cities, of sea and ocean communications, inflicting strikes on the enemy's sea transports. Skilfully coordinated naval operations with ground operations. Commanded the Pacific Navy's operations in the war against imperialist Japan. Took part in the Yalta and Potsdam conferences of the leaders of the three allied powers in 1945. (By the end of the war, was Admiral of the Navy, which was the highest military rank in the Navy at that time. Admiral of the Navy of the Soviet Union from 1955.) Hero of the Soviet Union, was awarded many orders and medals.
