Coordinated the fronts' operations at Stalingrad, in breaking the blockade of Leningrad, in the Battle of Kursk and the Battle for the Dnieper. Commander of the 1 st Ukrainian Front. Coordinated actions of the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts. Commanded the troops of the 1st Byelorussian Front at the final stage of the war. On May 8, 1945, he accepted the capitulation of Nazi Germany on behalf of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. Four times Hero of the Soviet Union, was twice awarded the highest military order of Victory and presented with many orders and medals and ceremonial weapons. |
