| Marshal of the Soviet Union TOLBUKHIN Fyodor Ivanovich (1894-1949) During the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), was Chief of Staff of the Transcaucasian, and then the Caucasian and Crimean fronts, commanded the 57th and 68th armies on the Stalingrad and North-Western fronts, and the troops of the Southern, and the 4th and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. Guided the troops' engagements in the Battle of Stalingrad, in the liberation of the Ukraine and the Crimea, in the Yassy-Kishinev operation, and in the liberation of Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary and Austria. Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously), was awarded the highest military order of Victory and many other orders and medals. |
